Island plates is one of my favorite map types. If you lower the sea level it can turn into a spindly pangaea, or if you raise it you get a less splintered archipelago. I probably play 80% fractal, 10% primordial, 10% seven seas. yeah it always seemed to me to be the most "realistic" of all the options.

It's definitely a lot more of a game compared to the Age of Abundance - it's a large map with 10 Civs total, most of which are Naval civs. That said, even on Emperor (6) difficulty, it's not hard to wipe the walls with the AI.
