These two reasons alone make it obvious why Ford returned to the closed chamber head with the introduction of the D3VE. The D3VE's chamber CC is very close to that of the D2VE's chamber (keeps compresison ratio down), but the shape makes for both a better mixture motion and a shorter flame travel. Stuff like that.
