The jack has to be positioned as close as possible to the rear of the bike to balance. If the load is not balanced on the jack, it lifts one of the locking legs out of position, (This could get ugly). I use a 2x8 under the jiffy stand to level the bike enough for the jack to roll under from the opposite side of the bike.
