Why do my voicemails show up late.

Sporadically, the actual voicemail cannot be retrieved on my iPhone because it's not displayed there. However, the message is displayed on my Apple Watch. The especially weird part is that the phone app icon (on my iPhone) will often have a "1" badge on it indicating that I have something new there, but when I go to Voicemail the new message ...The solution: Call AT&T and these steps: 1) Turn off WIFI. 2) Have ATT re register the phone. 3) Reboot the phone. 4) Have ATT turn off voicemail notification, then turn it back on. 5) Test while ATT before hanging up. Never have seen this. The last month or so when a call comes in and someone leaves a voicemail, I get no number by the voicemail icon. Yes the notification badge setting is on. Also when I open the Verizon app the voicemail is not there until I manually go into the menu and hit refresh. Then it shows up. I am on the free version of voicemail.
