My father had an old MEC 600 Jr. from the 70's. He had dies for a 12 gage and a 20 gage. When I received the loader, it had 20 gage dies on it. ... I do not like the new ones at all! The rubber deteriorates and shot digs into the grommet and gets caught between the bar and the loader head.

Bumping up your payload with the same powder charge might be asking for trouble. It doesn't take much to exceed shotgun pressure limits of 11,500 psi for 12 gauge. They fit and work perfectly. There's no need to retrofit your reloader until/unless these become unavailable. There is only ONE fairly certain way of loading larger shot, (7-1/2), in a 410 MEC machine that works with any consistency. 1) Polish the inside of the drop tube. (You have already done this). 2) Make sure your shot is well graphite'd. I use a folded washcloth...drop 10 primer on the cloth. The cloth acts as a cushion making it easy to grab a primer. Complete a shell, grab a primer, drop it in, grab a hull and take off. The Mec 600 is a very simple machine, I'd keep it that way.
