One forum quoted that GM moved date codes to the side of the block in the 70's. This is passenger side between the core plugs. Block code (in the usual place) confirmed as 3970010 "M" code next to this. The block number - in this case 3970010 - is not the same as the block alloy casting codes (010, 020) that show alloy content and are cast inside the timing cover area on the front of the block. The casting number is 3970010, and the code stamp/suffix is V0709HV. From what I found the casting number indicates it is 1969-79 350ci for a car, truck, or Vette. But then the suffix code indicates it was built July 09, 1965 and is from a 327ci Vette.

It is a 3970010 4 bolt main 350. Dished pistons with the valve relieves. Cam had one rounded off lobe and the lifter that ran on that lobe was concaved. Heads are 3998991's This seems to be a low compression smogger type motor. Other than the cam lobe all the other items including pitons are in very good shape.
